The 'Broadside Outside' Jam Session at the Artillery Arms in Portsmouth
Once a fortnight, the Broadside meets at the Artillery Arms in Portsmouth for an acoustic jam session. Join in with folk music or any other genre played without the aid of electronics.

Tuesday March 2nd will be the last Tuesday. From then on we will meet on the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month.

Broadside Outside: talk, play, sing, swap
Broadside Outside is an addition to Broadside Folk Club. The first session was 3 February 2009. Its purpose is to provide the opportunity for like-minded people to meet and talk; swap tunes and songs; learn from each other; play along together and generally have a jolly good time, all in the atmosphere of a good old backstreet pub: The Artillery Arms.
What do we play?
The intention is to play a variety of stuff: English, Irish and Scottish music as well as Blues, Old Timey American, French, Scandinavian etc. plus lots of contemporary folk and other types of song. Almost anything you like, really, so long as it's acoustic and you don't mind others joining in.
We will ensure that the session is not dominated by any one musician, one group of people or one type of music.
Those who have participated so far are very happy with it; we've all had some fun and are looking forward to more. The shape of the Artillery's lounge bar means that Broadside Outside does not affect the pub's other customers too much. They can, of course, listen or even join in if they choose. We have had no negative comments; on the contrary, we have heard people say they enjoy it.
Broadside Outside could be the perfect springboard for further adventures. Perhaps one day it may even evolve into a Broadside Folk Orchestra!
Where is that then?
You are welcome to Broadside Outside at the Artillery Arms (towards the back of the lounge bar) every other Tuesday (counting 3 February 09 as the first one) from about 8 o'clock. Our hosts at the Artillery Arms are Peter and Jackie.
The Artillery Arms is in Hester Road - a left turn off Dunbar Road in Portsmouth. There is usually plenty of parking right outside the pub. Postcode is PO4 8HB.
