I have been collecting Victorian Gallows Ballads for my website and researching the True Crime stories behind them for about 18 months now. The next step is to find some musicians prepared to set these vintage lyrics to tunes of their own and bring them back to life as fully-performed songs.
The link below will take you to an 1829 song inspired by events in Portsmouth, which I thought your members might like to know about. If anyone there is interested in adding their own tune and performing the song, please let me know. I'd love to hear it.

Introducing the Portsmouth Broadside Folk Club?
The Broadside is a very welcoming venue for acoustic performers of all types and standards. Whether you're a seasoned preformer or just starting out, Broadsided Folk Club members will give you a warm reception.
We presently have unaccompanied singers, and musicians with guitars, concertinas, whistles, mandolins and as well as those who prefer just to listen or prepare themselves for a performance at a later date..
Our Acoustic Folk Music Singaround in Portsmouth
If you would like to play or listen, please try to arrive between 8.00pm and 8.20pxm ready for a prompt start at 8.30pm. George calls for order and the singaround then passes from person to person.
There is a half time break, giving you the opportunity to socialsise and discuss music. Depending on numbers you may get perform two to four times.
The bar is available all through the evening - a ring of the bell will bring one of the bar staff through from the main bar to the function room.
Of course there is no obligation to take part and you will be welcome as spectator if you prefer.
